Dieses Buch macht deutlich, dass trotz der Fülle an Literatur zu den beiden zentralen Konzepten, nämlich dem Arbeitsklima und dem Engagement der Mitarbeiter bei der Arbeit, nur wenige Arbeiten deren Zusammenhang untersucht haben. Dieses Buch ermöglicht es, den Untersuchungsgegenstand durch die Formulierung von drei operativen Hypothesen besser zu verstehen, um den Einfluss von drei unabhängigen Variablen, nämlich den materiellen Arbeitsbedingungen, den zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen und der leistungsbezogenen Förderung, auf das Arbeitsengagement, die abhängige Variable der Studie, zu testen. Zu diesem Zweck stützte sich das methodische Vorgehen auf eine Sammlung von Felddaten, die aus einem Fragebogen hervorgingen, der bei einer Stichprobe von 225 Bediensteten aller Geschlechter und Besoldungsgruppen ausgefüllt wurde. Deskriptive und inferenzielle Analysen wurden durchgeführt, um die Bedeutung der Studie im Allgemeinen und in den Verteidigungs- und Sicherheitskräften im Besonderen besser zu verstehen.
