Multe sensuri conotative sunt reprezentate de vocative şi imperative. Interjecţiile sunt părţi de vorbire care nu denumesc, şi deci nu au sensuri denotative, ci doar sensuri afective, care sugerează stări sufleteşti şi volitive. Onomatopeele sunt 'cuvinte-motivate', care prin elementele lor sonore imită zgomote din natură.
