El Diccionario del Diablo (The Devils Dictionary en inglés) es una recopilación satírica de 998 definiciones corrosivas escritas de 1881 a 1906 por Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914?).Inicialmente fue publicado en fragmentos en diversos periódicos durante más de veinte años. Al finalizar esta labor, en 1911, se recopiló una versión completa. El libro fue conocido desde la Guerra de Secesión de EE.UU. El recurso que caracteriza su escritura, como en general el estilo de Bierce, es la ironía y un sarcasmo que conduce hasta la visión del mundo al revés. Maestro de la síntesis, Bierce encuentra en el Diccionario del Diablo un pretexto para expresarse con sarcasmo, humor negro e ingenio. Este libro puede ser leído como si de una erudita enciclopedia se tratase, con todo tipo de acepciones y entradas de las que el autor se sirve para criticar a la sociedad en general, al ser humano en particular; y ridiculizar los arquetipos, las instituciones y todo lo políticamente correcto.
