Wychodząc od aktualnych dyskusji dotyczących (ponownego) wprowadzenia diakonatu kobiet, niniejsza praca zajmuje się historycznymi, teologicznymi i religijno-pedagogicznymi podejściami do diakonatu kobiet. Uzupełnieniem są wyniki ankiety jakościowej, które pozwalają uchwycić duszpasterski punkt widzenia na ten temat. Z pracy tej wynika, że kobiety, których zaangażowanie jest zasadniczo doceniane i uznawane, nadal nie mają (jeszcze) równego dostępu do urzędów kościelnych. Pomimo że pełnią wiele zadań diakonicznych i duszpasterskich, droga do diakonatu, a w konsekwencji do kapłaństwa, pozostaje dla nich zamknięta.
