Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit stehen Verfahren, die in der Forschung für die Feststellung der Lernmotivation entwickelt wurden sind. Es ist nicht alleiniges Ziel dieser Hausarbeit darzustellen, wie ein solches Verfahren durchgeführt wird, sondern es soll auch geschaut werden, inwieweit der Lehrer in der Schule ein solches Verfahren zur Erfassung der Leistungsmotivation nutzen kann.Bevor sich aber einer Auswahl an Verfahren detaillierter zugewendet wird, scheint es wichtig kurz darauf einzugehen, was allgemein unter Motivation und Motiven verstanden wird. Wer untersuchen möchte wie stark Lernmotivation bei einem Schüler ausgeprägt ist, sollte auch ein Verständnis davon haben, wie Motivation eigentlich entsteht.Nach diesen einleitenden Betrachtungen wird der Frage nachgegangen, was die Besonderheiten der Leistungsmotivation sind und welche Motive wirken können um Leistung zu erbringen.
