O líquen plano oral é uma dermatose inflamatória crónica cutâneo-mucosa que afecta a pele, os anexos e a mucosa, incluindo a mucosa oral. Estas lesões orais passam por três fases: inicial, estado e tardia. Durante a fase ativa, as lesões são bilaterais e simétricas e são sintomáticas. O diagnóstico positivo baseia-se na combinação obrigatória de critérios clínicos e histológicos definidos pela OMS. Esta patologia requer um tratamento sintomático e um acompanhamento contínuo bastante cauteloso, uma vez que o líquen é classificado como uma doença com potencial maligno.
