La République démocratique du Congo est le deuxième plus grand pays d’Afrique et le quatrième plus peuplé avec 70 millions d’habitants. Sa superficie est presque équivalente à celle de l’Europe occidentale. Néanmoins, elle est en proie à une guerre civile quasi permanente depuis plus de 15 ans, l’un des conflits les plus sanglants depuis la Seconde Guerre mondiale, souvent qualifié de Première Guerre mondiale africaine . Depuis son début en 1997, ce conflit a fait plus de 5 millions de victimes. Les causes du conflit sont diverses, mais les plus importantes sont les différences ethniques dans le pays et les riches ressources naturelles que l’on trouve en RDC. Ce conflit a toutefois fortement influencé le développement de la RDC.
