Pongamia é um género com apenas uma espécie, Pongamia pinnata (L.), uma árvore perene de tamanho médio e glabra que cresce espontaneamente na região de Kachchh (Gujarat, Índia); uma planta importante em várias áreas. No presente estudo, identificámos aminoácidos por cromatografia circular em papel, cromatografia em camada fina e por espectroscopia UV-VIS-NIR. Além disso, os silicatos e boratos foram identificados por cromatografia iónica (IC) utilizando uma coluna de silicato-borato. O teor de alcalóides, ácidos gordos e lípidos foi separado, isolado e identificado a partir das folhas da P. pinnata por GC/MS. O teor de metais também foi identificado em várias partes da planta. As amostras da planta também foram submetidas a análise FTIR para a identificação dos grupos funcionais presentes, e cada espectro foi comparado com a biblioteca de compostos FTIR.
