Ao longo dos anos, os templos egípcios da cidade de Luxor têm sido objeto de intensa investigação, mas a maior parte destes estudos centrou-se apenas nos aspectos clássicos das descrições arqueológicas e históricas. Muitos dos problemas ambientais são o resultado inevitável da expansão urbana não planeada em torno dos templos monumentais. Este artigo tem como objetivo avaliar as alterações ambientais em torno de alguns templos da cidade de Luxor, utilizando técnicas de deteção remota e SIG. Em particular, foi investigada uma base de dados histórica composta por dados Corona e Landsat TM, juntamente com as novas aquisições do Quickbird 2 e do Sentinel 2. Os resultados da nossa investigação revelaram rápidas mudanças nas áreas urbanas e agrícolas, que afectaram negativamente os templos monumentais egípcios, causando graves fenómenos de degradação. Utilizando a informação obtida da nossa análise baseada em RS&GIS, foram também identificadas estratégias de mitigação para apoiar a preservação da área arqueológica.
