«Des mines littéraires» propose, à partir d’une analyse d’œuvres marquantes de Daniel Saint-Germain, Jeanne-Mance Delisle, Jocelyne Saucier, Jean Marc Dalpé, Doric Germain, Hélène Brodeur, Michel Ouellette et d’autres, une lecture comparative de l’imaginaire littéraire minier de l’Abitibi et du Nord de l’Ontario, deux régions fondées sur l’industrie extractive.Basé sur la notion de chronotope de Bakhtine – les éléments de description spatiaux et temporels des récits –, l’ouvrage est divisé en trois parties. La première se penche sur la typologie de la mine mythique et l’imaginaire des mines industrielles de la littérature européenne ; la deuxième, sur l’esthétique nordique et la notion de frontier, qui structurent la littérature des mines en Amérique du Nord. La dernière partie analyse l’impact du chronotope minier sur les rôles conférés aux personnages fictionnels, à leur fatalité de n’exister que pour servir le mythe de la mine. L’ouvrage s’intéresse également aux particularités différenciant les deux corpus, qu’il s’agisse par exemple de l’importance accordée au militantisme ouvrier ou à la dimension symbolique de la mine.Avec cette étude, Isabelle Kirouac Massicotte creuse un champ de recherche peu exploré dans les études littéraires au pays.
