Björn Wiels betrachtet in seiner vorliegenden Studie die komplexe Thematik des Schutzes von 'geistigem Eigentum'. Dabei nimmt der Autor zwar die Perspektive des Unternehmers ein, verknüpft diese aber mit juristischen und philosophischen Gesichtspunkten. Fragen über den Anspruch der Öffentlichkeit auf Wissen einerseits und andererseits das Recht des Unternehmers auf den Schutz seiner Entwicklungen stehen im Mittelpunkt der Analyse. So wird deutlich, dass das derzeit gebräuchliche Verständnis von Wissen als 'geistigem Eigentum' Schwächen aufweist. Björn Wiels schlägt in seiner vorliegenden Studie andere Wege für den Umgang mit Wissen vor und zeigt neue Argumentationslinien für eine Diskussion über den Schutz von 'geistigem Eigentum' vor Produktpiraterie auf.
