Der Forscher Laosa schrieb dazu: „Die Bildungsunterschiede haben tiefe Wurzeln; sie zeigen sich schon sehr früh im Leben der Kinder, noch bevor sie zur Schule kommen. Sozioökonomische Unterschiede - wie Gesundheits- und Ernährungszustand, ein Zuhause, das Zugang zu bildungsrelevanten Erfahrungen bietet, Mobilität und finanzielles Vermögen - können die schulischen Leistungen zweifellos beeinflussen' (Laosa, 2005:5).
