Jahrhunderts in ihrem ersten groBen Vertreter GEORGE BRYAN BRUMMELL fertige Form findet und nUn gelebt, beschrieben, in ihrer Problematik behandelt den Lauf des. J ahrhunderts durch­ zieht. Dberall bemerkbar, fehlt diesem Phanomen doch die breite, fest umreiBbare Realitat; in der ungeheuren Symphonie dieses J ahrhunderts erscheint seine matte Stimme als schwebender, schnell sich verlierender Klang, nicht als sicher durchgeflihrte Melodie. Auch entzieht es sich jeder positiven Wertung; seine Gegenwart ist substanzarm, ohne Leistung, ohne wertbare Auswirkung im sozialen Leben; es besitzt keine Zukunft. Abgeschlossen in sich selbst be­ trachtet, in den wenigen Vertretern, die ihm deutliche Realitat ge­ geben, bietet es eine Flille kleiner und kleinster Zlige dar, ein Sonder­ leben, das ohne groBbewegende Idee sinnlos, selbst einfaltig scheint.
