Die Arbeit soll zeigen, inwiefern das Gedicht Der Knabe im Moor von Annette von Droste-Hülshoff ein repräsentatives Beispiel der Gattung Ballade ist. Dazu wird zunächst geklärt, wie der Begriff ‚Ballade’ definiert ist, es erfolgt eine Abgrenzung zu anderen balladenähnlichen Gattungen, eine kurze Dar-stellung der Entstehung der Gattung, sowie der Gattungsarten und es werden die formalen und inhaltlichen Kennzeichen der Gattung Ballade erläutert, die dann im zweiten Schritt im Gedicht Der Knabe im Moor untersucht werden.
