Ausgehend vom französischen Recht konzentriert sich diese Studie auf den Grundsatz der Territorialität des Urheberrechts in internationalen Vertriebsverträgen für Kinofilme in der Europäischen Union und in Nordamerika sowie auf die damit verbundenen kommerziellen und wettbewerbsrechtlichen Auswirkungen. In dieser Hinsicht wird die Problematik des Geoblockings analysiert, um zu überprüfen, welche Quellen diese Praxis hat und welche Nachteile sie für alle beteiligten Parteien mit sich bringt, bevor nach möglichen Lösungen gefragt wird, die dafür aufgezeigt werden könnten. Das Hauptziel dieser Untersuchung ist es, herauszufinden, ob es möglich ist, auf der Grundlage des aktuellen Urheberrechtsmodells präzise Lösungen für den Konflikt zwischen territorialen Rechten und der freien internationalen Verbreitung von Filmen rund um die Welt, insbesondere im digitalen Umfeld, zu finden. Kurz gesagt: Um das Problem, das die europäische Industrie plagt, zu lösen, wird vorgeschlagen, Regelungen zu beseitigen, die europaweite Lizenzen behindern, und die Unterstützung für die Verbreitung dieser Werke zu stärken.
