Sie zeigt auf, wie sich die Typenzuordnung im Verlauf des Dienstes verändert und bewertet, welche Funktionen die Typen jeweils für den Freiwilligen Wehrdienst, die Organisationskultur der Bundeswehr, sowie das zivil-militärische Verhältnis einnehmen können. Dies führt auch für Praktiker und Entscheidungsträger zu weitreichenden Schlussfolgerungen. Die Autorin leistet aufgrund der anschaulichen Darstellung des Forschungsprozesses und einer transparenten Datenauswertung einen wichtigen Beitrag zu einem kritischen Methodenverständnis in der qualitativen Sozialforschung.
