Cette étude analyse les rendements initiaux des introductions en bourse en utilisant un échantillon d’entreprises cotées à la bourse de Nairobi entre 1984 et 2008. Elle établit en outre un lien entre le rendement initial et le taux de souscription à l’aide de modèles de régression afin de déterminer s’il existe une relation et la nature de cette relation. L’étude fournit un cas de marché émergent de preuves internationales sur la performance des introductions en bourse. Les résultats de l’échantillon d’entreprises introduites en bourse montrent un rendement initial moyen de 40,28 % le premier jour de négociation sur le marché secondaire. Cela représente une augmentation de 17,78 % par rapport à l’étude de Maina (2004), qui a trouvé un rendement initial de 22,57 %. Tout ceci est cohérent avec d’autres recherches internationales, qui ont en moyenne également documenté des rendements initiaux positifs le premier jour. Voir l’annexe 5. L’étude a également révélé que le modèle de régression quadratique représente le mieux la nature de la relation entre le rendement initial et le taux de souscription, par rapport aux résultats générés par le modèle de régression linéaire sur le marché kenyan des introductions en bourse.
