Pedro Felipe Ramírez es un testigo invaluable de los procesos políticos y sociales de Chile en los últimos cincuenta años y esa prerrogativa de excepción le otorga a este libro un significado de documento histórico para la mejor comprensión de nuestro pasado. Protagonista de hitos claves de nuestra historia, comenzó como un destacado dirigente juvenil, presidente de la FECH y muy joven fue parlamentario democratacristiano durante el gobierno de Frei Montalva, donde patrocinó la “vía no capitalista de desarrollo”, con la Reforma Agraria y el cambio educativo. Impulsó la formación de la Izquierda Cristiana (IC), apoyó al gobierno de la Unidad Popular y fue estrecho colaborador del presidente Allende como ministro de las carteras de Minería y de Vivienda. Padeció la represión de la dictadura siendo confinado en la isla Dawson, y luego recluido durante varios años en diversas prisiones a lo largo de Chile. Partió al exilio en Venezuela para retornar al país en plena dictadura y pasar a ser uno de los primeros dirigentes públicos de la izquierda, juzgado y encarcelado por promover las demandas democráticas. Fue embajador de Chile en la Venezuela de Maduro, donde como diplomático debió afrontar la crisis democrática y la proscripción de opositores. Un relato de gran valentía y transparencia que aborda episodios inéditos de este tramo decisivo de nuestra historia y no escatima una dimensión privada del autor en la defensa de su orientación sexual en tiempos que significaban una irremediable marginación social. Como señala el poeta Jorge Montealegre: “Hay mucho dolor en estas vivencias, así como hay una porfiada esperanza. Y más enseñanzas que nostalgias, y eso se agradece.” 10
