Esta obra maestra del siglo XVII aborda una de las cuestiones más cruciales de la fe y la razón: la muerte. El tratado presenta una defensa sistemática de la teología clásica y judía tradicional cuyo argumento principal se centra en la refutación de las posturas de los Saduceos y ateístas, quienes negaban la existencia del alma después de la muerte y la resurrección. Menasseh Ben Israel (1604-1657) dedica la mayor parte del texto a una minuciosa exégesis bíblica para demostrar tanto la inmortalidad del alma como la resurrección, citando un total de 25 lugares de las divinas letras para probar la resurrección y 43 lugares para defender la inmortalidad del alma, respondiendo eficazmente a las objeciones de los antagonistas, incluyendo numerosos pasajes del Pentateuco, los Profetas y los Escritos y a autores profanos. Además, el texto sostiene que la resurrección es un milagro que se conforma a la razón y a la omnipotencia de Dios. Finalmente, el autor aborda la objeción de por qué la Ley no especifica claramente las recompensas y castigos de la otra vida, expone las causas de la resurrección milagrosa, el juicio final y la reformación del mundo. 10
