Bij haar onderzoek naar het voorgeslacht van haar oom Boy (Charles Louis) Klein uit Nederlands-Indië kwam de schrijfster interessante namen tegen en maakte zij dierbare vrienden in de verenigde Staten. Een en ander leidde tot een emotionele familie-reünie in 2013 en uiteindelijk tot de publicatie van dit boek, waarmee zij haar oom Boy zo graag had willen verrassen. Helaas heeft het niet zo mogen zijn, dat zij het resultaat van haar werk persoonlijk aan haar oom kon uitreiken: na een langdurige ziekte kwam zij te overlijden nog voordat het boek helemaal af was. Vlak voor haar overlijden heeft haar echtgenoot haar beloofd het werk af te ronden en ervoor te zorgen dat het boek gepubliceerd zou worden.Na 'Kwartierstaat Van Waeterschoodt, een Indische familie uit Vlaanderen' uit 2008 is dit het tweede en dus helaas laatste werk van de hand van Karin Riper-de Wit.
