Alle Nederlanders met de naam Sangster stammen af van George Sangster, de stamvader. Hij kwam in het begin van de 18e eeuw vanuit Schotland naar Nederland als soldaat van de z.g. Schotse Brigade. Uit de aantekening van zijn huwelijk in 1754 met Johanna Geertruij Heijmans blijkt dat hij diende in het Regiment van Stuart onder Dundas. Later werd hij commies bij 'de Grote Brabantse Landtol, paarde- en geleidegeld', eerst in Dinther en later Breda. Zijn vrouw overleed in 1776 en hij hertrouwde in hetzelfde jaar met Hendrina van Bossij. Alle huidige Sangsters zijn nazaten van dit echtpaar. Sinds het uitkomen van de eerste uitgave in 2011/2 is zo veel nieuwe informatie beschikbaar gekomen dat het tijd werd voor een 2e geheel herziene uitgave. Het boek bevat niet alleen feitelijke informatie maar beschrijft veel personen uit de eerste vijf generaties in een vooral verhalende stijl. Het geeft verder verhalen, mythen en waarheden, die van generatie op generatie zijn doorgegeven.
