Dave Porter and His Double: Or The Disappearance Of The Basswood Fortune is a novel written by Edward Stratemeyer and first published in 1916. The book is part of the Dave Porter series and follows the adventures of the titular character as he tries to solve the mystery of the disappearance of a valuable fortune. The story begins with Dave Porter, a young man who is attending a boarding school, receiving a strange letter from a man claiming to be his long-lost uncle. The letter states that Dave’s uncle has recently passed away and left him a sizable inheritance. However, when Dave arrives at his uncle’s home to claim his inheritance, he discovers that someone has already taken it. Determined to solve the mystery, Dave sets out to find the culprit and reclaim his rightful inheritance. Along the way, he encounters a number of interesting characters, including a man who looks exactly like him and a group of thieves who are also after the fortune. As Dave delves deeper into the mystery, he must use all of his wits and skills to uncover the truth and prevent the thieves from getting away with the Basswood Fortune.
