Lo studio è stato condotto per determinare le frequenze di ADHD tra gli alunni delle scuole elementari irachene e per valutare la relazione dell’ADHD con l’ormone stimolante la tiroide (TSH), il testosterone e la dopamina, riconoscendo il ruolo di alcuni geni legati alla dopamina come DAT1, DRD2 e DRD4 nell’ADHD. Questo studio è stato condotto nel periodo compreso tra l’inizio di aprile 2012 e la fine di settembre 2014. Il campione dello studio comprendeva 1431 alunni (777 maschi e 654 femmine) di età compresa tra gli 8 e i 12 anni, selezionati da nove scuole primarie della città di Baghdad.
