Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,3, Universität Erfurt, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Jahr 1985 feierte die Stadt Augsburg ihr 2000-jähriges Bestehen und blickte dabei auf eine ereignisreiche Geschichte zurück. In dieser Arbeit möchte ich einen kleinen Ausschnitt dieser Geschichte etwas genauer beleuchten, genau genommen die Gründung der Stadt durch die Römer, ihr Aufstieg zur Hauptstadt Raetiens und das zivile Leben in der Provinz. Zunächst jedoch ist es mir ein Anliegen, dieses Thema nicht herausgelöst aus den vorgehenden Ereignissen zu sehen, weshalb ich ein Kapitel der vorrömischen Zeit in Süddeutschland und den Eroberungszügen der Römer widme. Daraufhin beschäftigt sich die Arbeit zunächst mit dem Militärlager Augsburg - Oberhausen, das als Vorgängersiedlung des eigentlichen Augsburgs gesehen werden kann um dann schließlich auf die Stadt und ihre Entwicklung einzugehen. Des Weiteren wird untersucht inwiefern die Stadt nach Ende der römischen Herrschaft bis ins Mittelalter weiter genutzt, bzw. nicht genutzt wurde. Zuletzt möchte ich noch einen kurzen Ausblick auf aktuell in der Stadt laufende Grabungen geben.
