Any motorist, stopping for petrol in any South Australian country town, would expect to be welcomed with open arms - WRONG! - Any stranger, in any South Australian country town, could expect full protection from the police - WRONG! - Any woman, visiting a friend at night, in any South Australian country town, could expect to get home again in one piece - WRONG! - Not if that town is DARK HARBOUR!JUST ASK DAMIEN CURTIS!When he pulls in to Dark Harbour late at night, looking for petrol, he meets a drunken driver side on, and watches as his precious possessions float away into the harbour. Forced to stay for the night, he soon discovers that the local inhabitants are more than unfriendly. From the publican to the local cop, he is given to understand that his presence is not welcome there, and in the following days he finds himself subject to all sorts of threats, and these have the effect of making him all the more determined to stay. This decision almost costs him his life.

  • Meritocrats
    Stuart Evans
Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...

  • The Obelisk
    David Lewis Paget
This, my sixteenth volume of narrative poems, is what you might call a mixed bag. If you bought this in a lolly shop, you would find the usual sickly pink sugary ones, the sour teddies, and the chocolate smoothies. But wriggling around the bottom of the bag would be some that defied description, black and glutinous, with names like dark dreams and shadowy freakshows. Unless you...

Once more a collection of 70 narrative poems, with disparate themes, something, in fact, for everybody. This is my fifteenth collection, beginning with Timepieces, which was largely Gothic, to the present collection which are rather less bloodthirsty than those early volumes. I like to think of most of the subject material as bizarre these days, more subtle perhaps, but just as...

They do not live as you and I live. Not for them the mundane and repetitive boredom of tiny lives, lived in quiet desperation in the mean streets of our cities. They mainly survive on the edge of th...
