Dante and Beatrice is a novel written by Sara King Wiley and published in 1909. The book is a fictionalized account of the life of Dante Alighieri, the famous Italian poet, and his relationship with his muse and love interest, Beatrice Portinari. The novel follows Dante’s life from his childhood in Florence, where he first meets Beatrice, to his exile from the city and his eventual death. Throughout the story, Dante is deeply inspired by Beatrice, who represents for him the ideal of feminine beauty and virtue. The book is divided into four parts, each of which corresponds to a different stage in Dante’s life. The first part focuses on Dante’s childhood and his initial encounters with Beatrice. The second part covers Dante’s early adulthood and his growing love for Beatrice, as well as his struggles with political turmoil in Florence. The third part of the book details Dante’s exile from Florence and his travels through Italy, during which he continues to be haunted by his love for Beatrice. The final part of the novel deals with Dante’s death and his reunion with Beatrice in the afterlife.Throughout the book, Wiley draws on historical sources and Dante’s own writings to create a vivid and engaging portrait of the poet and his muse. Dante and Beatrice is a moving and romantic tale that explores themes of love, loss, and the power of inspiration. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
