La danse et son rôle dans l’ancienne religion égyptienne ont fait l’objet d’un manque flagrant d’études. À cette époque lointaine, la danse occupait une place beaucoup plus importante qu’aujourd’hui. Les danseurs et les chanteurs étaient même considérés comme des membres du clergé et de nombreuses grandes prêtresses étaient des danseuses ou des chanteuses du temple. Si l’étude des formes anciennes de danse a fait l’objet d’un certain nombre d’efforts, peu d’attention a été accordée à l’établissement d’un lien entre la danse et d’autres découvertes archéologiques. L’une des principales ressources est celle de Lexanova, écrite en 1937. Nous espérons qu’Aegyptic Dance proposera suffisamment de sources pour permettre d’autres recherches plus approfondies sur le sujet.Aegyptic Dance tente de rassembler des sources disparates sur l’histoire et la sociologie de la danse afin d’en faciliter l’accès à l’étudiant. Dans l’Antiquité, la danse jouissait d’un statut social et religieux plus élevé qu’aujourd’hui et les danseurs étaient considérés comme des membres du clergé des principales sectes kémétiques. De nombreuses grandes prêtresses, en particulier d’Hathor, étaient des danseuses de temple, et la danse occupait une place importante dans les célébrations et les dévotions religieuses et profanes, ainsi que dans les rites d’inhumation funéraire.
