Kate Latimer, a promising playwright, jumps at the chance to observe the production of a major Broadway musical. But rivalry springs up between the stars, actors have to be replaced, fault lines in the musical’s script become apparent, the director falters, and the out-of-town tryouts reveal the show is in deep trouble. Two of the producers turn to Kate for help. As the curtain goes up on opening night on Broadway, the fate of the show and the people involved hang in the balance.
