Celem tego badania było przeprowadzenie wywiadów ze studentami pierwszego roku edukacji muzycznej, aby zrozumieć, jakie wpływy i / lub doświadczenia muzyczne wpłynęły na ich decyzję o studiowaniu edukacji muzycznej. Uczestnicy (N = 28) byli zapisani na kurs wprowadzający do edukacji muzycznej na średniej wielkości uniwersytecie metropolitalnym. Badani zostali poproszeni o wypełnienie ankiety i ocenę stopnia postrzeganego wpływu na ich wybór specjalizacji w edukacji muzycznej. Uczestnicy zostali również poproszeni o udzielenie pisemnych odpowiedzi na temat osobistych wpływów, które doprowadziły ich do wyboru edukacji muzycznej jako kierunku studiów. Wyniki ankiety wykazały, że 89,3% uczniów miało największy wpływ na decyzję o wyborze edukacji muzycznej przez nauczyciela muzyki w szkole średniej. Inne wyniki pokazują, że wśród wszystkich uczestników, wcześniejsze doświadczenie w grupach muzycznych również wpłynęło na ich decyzje.
