Czerniak akralny jest rzadkim podtypem czerniaka skóry, który zazwyczaj ma niekorzystny przebieg i jest agresywny. Mechanizmy patogenetyczne związane z tym przebiegiem klinicznym nie są w pełni poznane. Obecnie badania literaturowe koncentrują się na mechanizmach unikania odpowiedzi immunologicznej związanych z mikrośrodowiskiem czerniaka, ponieważ mogą one hamować odpowiedź immunologiczną przeciwnowotworową, umożliwiając postęp choroby. Ekspresja ludzkiego antygenu leukocytowego G i interleukiny 10 oraz makrofagi M2 w mikrośrodowisku nowotworowym są strategiami unikania odpowiedzi immunologicznej opracowanymi przez niektóre nowotwory. Czynniki te nie były jednak dotychczas przedmiotem szczegółowych badań w przypadku czerniaka akralnego.
