O trabalho visa descortinar se a política de saúde do Exército que prioriza o atendimento em nosocômios próprios resulta em economia. Os custos cirúrgicos de um hospital da força (HGES) foram medidos pelo método Custeio Baseado em Atividades (ABC) e comparados às despesas incorridas com cirurgias realizadas na rede privada. Um tratamento dos dados de custos e despesas, utilizando o programa de análise estatística STATA®, apresentou evidências de que há forte relação entre custos mais elevados quando as cirurgias ocorrem em hospitais credenciados. A pesquisa busca contribuir com uma visão técnica sobre a mensuração dos custos médico-hospitalares dos nosocômios militares, fornecendo dados concretos que permitam avaliar o alinhamento da política de saúde do Exército com o princípio da Eficiência Econômica, que visa proporcionar melhores serviços públicos a menores custos. 10
