La autora de este libro nos presenta críticamente, entre otros aspectos, un debate de actualidad sobre el modo como en nuestro tiempo representamos, concebimos y nos relacionamos con el cuerpo. Señala que dicha representación ha cambiado debido a la influencia omnipresente del discurso científico, constituido en tecnociencias. Se ocupa también de argumentar esta premisa mostrando en qué han consistido específicamente dichos cambios, cuáles han sido sus repercusiones sobre la relación mente-cuerpo y, más específicamente, sobre la subjetividad. En este libro no se denuncia, sino que se enuncia un llamado a la opinión ilustrada, a los trabajadores de la salud mental y a los investigadores sociales en general. Esta invitación consiste en ocuparse desde sus propios referentes epistemológicos, en causar un pensamiento crítico y una reflexión “sobre los efectos de la técnica en los modos como alojamos el cuerpo y hacemos lazo con el otro”. A lo largo del texto se sostiene “una postura ética y política” que implica un cuestionamiento de la pretensión científica de “objetivizar, cifrar y medir el sufrimiento psíquico” de los seres humanos. 10
