ALL ACROSS THE US, PEOPLE ARE DISAPPEARING WITHOUT A TRACE... Cowry Shells is a modern-day thriller taking place in South Florida involving a series of brutal murders targeting blacks, Jews, Latinos & members of the LGBT Community. It is set against the historical backdrop of two families from different ethnic backgrounds whose destinies are bound together by a cowry shell necklace brought over to America on a slave ship. This necklace plays a pivotal role in the lives of two generations of Devareauxs and Johnsons, culminating in the string of horrific murders now unfolding. As Cowry Shells opens, Kendra Williams, a young black prostitute is just beginning to ply her nightly trade, unaware that the final dramatic scenes of her life are about to be played out in grisly, bloody fashion! Before Williams’ body is found, however, 10-year-old Noah Tyler, fishing off a local canal bank is discovered nearly decapitated, igniting an intense manhunt by the Palmetto County Sheriff’s Department. Before long, Homicide Detective Lance Johnson begins to suspect that there are far more sinister forces at work than meets the eye. Could his suspicions be correct? Cowry Shells ends with a heart pounding chase through the Florida Everglades as Det. Johnson and a female companion try to outwit a pack of vicious killers who are determined to recover incriminating evidence against them. Will the pair be able to elude their pursuers long enough to retrieve the evidence and bring the killers to justice, or will their quest inevitably cost them their lives?

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
