El conflicto armado en Colombia ha impuesto costos económicos y sociales sobre el país y la población por más de cinco décadas. Si bien durante los últimos años se han llevado a cabo estudios para cuantificar cómo afecta la economía, los esfuerzos han sido aislados y se han publicado en un lenguaje académico que restringe su difusión y discusión. El propósito principal de este libro es estudiar los beneficios económicos y sociales que traería para el país el fin de la guerra. Para esto se centra en tres objetivos: el primero, proveer evidencia específica sobre los costos monetarios y no monetarios del conflicto en Colombia; el segundo, aportar ideas para un eventual proceso de posconflicto, y el tercero, trascender las audiencias académicas para proveer un análisis riguroso en un lenguaje sencillo. Los autores proponen que las discusiones en torno al proceso de paz deben partir de posiciones informadas y precisas. Aunque se deben tener en cuenta las altas inversiones que se requerirán para alcanzar un posconflicto sostenible, también se deben considerar los beneficios de largo plazo que recibirían los colombianos en un país en paz. 10
