Les désavantages des femmes dans le monde du travail et dans la société en général ont motivé l’auteur à aborder la perspective du genre et du travail comme un élément d’analyse important dans le cadre d’une stratégie de développement local durable. L’étude a impliqué les sept participantes d’une coopérative de genre dans une municipalité du sud de Minas Gerais. Selon la perception des participantes, leur qualité de vie a été positivement influencée par l’accroissement de leur autonomie et de leur estime de soi, leur entrée sur le marché du travail par le biais d’une coopérative de genre et leur contribution effective à l’environnement et au développement urbain, en promouvant la sensibilisation à l’environnement. Les initiatives de solidarité telles que la coopérative de genre, qui fait l’objet de cet ouvrage, permettent de réduire les problèmes sociaux et d’encourager la création d’entreprises productives qui contribuent de manière significative au développement local durable.
