Os problemas de qualidade da energia tornaram-se uma grande preocupação para as indústrias devido a enormes perdas em termos de tempo e dinheiro. A qualidade da energia é constituída por um grande número de perturbações, tais como desfasamentos de tensão, ondulações, harmónicas, entalhes, cintilação, etc. Existem vários métodos para atenuar os problemas de qualidade da energia, mas os dispositivos FACTS são a solução mais excelente para atenuar este problema. Um dos dispositivos FACTS mais potentes é o DVR para atenuar a queda e a oscilação da tensão. O desempenho de qualquer dispositivo de potência personalizado depende muito do algoritmo de controlo utilizado para a estimativa da corrente de referência e para o esquema de geração de impulsos de regulação. O funcionamento de um DVR foi demonstrado com uma nova técnica de controlo utilizando vários esquemas de injeção de tensão.
