Dans ce livre, qui est l’aboutissement de ma thèse de doctorat, je démontre que la littérature historique sur la guerre de libération menée dans les années 1970 est un véritable acteur de la question historique du Zimbabwe post-indépendance. Elle opérationnalise l’histoire d’une manière qui non seulement éclaire mais stimule davantage la réflexion et les débats sur la politique tumultueuse de l’hégémonie contestée du Zimbabwe. Il fait ressortir des perspectives cruciales sur la nation et le nationalisme qui pourraient embellir les recherches actuelles qui ont tendance à négliger les genres littéraires lorsqu’elles traitent de questions 'sérieuses', ce qui est essentiel, en particulier compte tenu du fait que l’histoire est au centre de la politique du Zimbabwe contemporain et qu’à ce titre, ce discours doit être engagé dans des perspectives plurielles. Je soutiens en outre que les représentations contestées de l’histoire de la guerre de libération dans le discours romanesque rendent possible l’évolution de nouveaux contenus et de nouvelles orientations puisque la littérature investit dans le pouvoir de l’image et du symbole pour commenter des questions nationales importantes.
