Le Brésil est un pays à fort potentiel pour la recherche sur les espèces végétales, car il possède la plus grande biodiversité de la planète. Parmi les différents biomes existants, la forêt amazonienne est le plus important, puisqu’elle regroupe à elle seule un quart des espèces animales et végétales de la planète. Cependant, la majorité des espèces végétales brésiliennes n’ont pas encore été étudiées, ce qui représente une économie potentielle à exploiter. En ce sens, des études portant sur des espèces végétales sont nécessaires pour identifier leurs constituants chimiques afin de justifier leurs activités pharmacologiques. Ce livre traite donc de l’étude des constituants chimiques polaires présents dans certaines espèces de la flore amazonienne brésilienne.
