Constance de Salm (1767-1845) fue la primera mujer en ser admitida en el Liceo de las Artes, regentaba su propio salón literario en París y había manifestado la modernidad de su pensamiento en sus escritos firmados como «ciudadana Pipelet»,nombre de su primer marido, de quien acabaría divorciándose. Este volumen ofrece, por primera vez en España, el estudio de Constance de Salm a través de su vida y de su obra, en la que se analiza la defensa apasionada de la causa y de los derechos de la mujer, la denuncia de las injusticias sufridas por las mujeres de su tiempo, sus consejos a las jóvenes y, sobre todo, su discurso reivindicativo en el campo de las letras y de las artes frente el dominio masculino. Un discurso con gran parentesco con el de Madame de Staël, y que pone de relieve la modernidad de esta autora que vivió el antes y el después de la Revolución francesa.
