A gestão farmacológica é um termo abrangente que descreve a utilização de medicamentos para gerir o comportamento dos doentes pediátricos submetidos a procedimentos dentários. As caraterísticas físicas, emocionais e de desenvolvimento únicas da criança em crescimento tornam os cuidados dentários particularmente desafiantes para o médico dentista. As crianças não são simplesmente pequenos adultos e os princípios da farmacoterapia dos adultos não são facilmente extrapolados para 'encaixar' no perfil e nas necessidades da criança. Infelizmente, existe uma escassez de literatura relativa à utilização de agentes farmacológicos em odontopediatria. Este facto tem sido atribuído, em grande parte, aos receios e dificuldades associados ao trabalho com crianças.
