Conscious sedation is a widely used pharmacological technique in pediatric dentistry to manage anxiety and enhance cooperation in young patients during dental procedures. It involves administering sedative agents to achieve a state of reduced consciousness while maintaining the patient’s ability to respond to verbal commands and protective reflexes. This dissertation explores various aspects of conscious sedation, including its indications, contraindications, pharmacology, and different routes of administration. Special emphasis is placed on the safety protocols, patient monitoring guidelines, and the role of sedation in behavior management. The use of agents such as nitrous oxide, midazolam, and ketamine is discussed, along with their advantages and limitations. Additionally, the dissertation reviews the effectiveness of conscious sedation in improving treatment outcomes and patient experience while minimizing discomfort. This work contributes to the understanding of conscious sedation as an essential tool in pediatric dental practice, supporting its role in providing safe and effective dental care for anxious and uncooperative children.
