Il ritiro sociale è stato oggetto di studio da parte dei ricercatori negli ultimi anni, a causa delle controversie relative allo sviluppo emotivo dei soggetti. Tuttavia, in Portogallo esistono pochi studi in questo campo relativi ai bambini in età prescolare. Si è quindi cercato di verificare la relazione tra conoscenza emotiva e ritiro sociale nella prima infanzia, su un campione di 227 bambini portoghesi (123 di sesso femminile) di età compresa tra i 36 e i 71 mesi. Sulla base di misure quantitative, è emerso che i risultati ottenuti non confermano l’evidenza che le difficoltà a livello di adattamento sociale, come i comportamenti solitari e di riluttanza, compromettano la conoscenza emotiva del bambino. Tuttavia, i dati raccolti rafforzano l’importanza dei giochi sociali nello sviluppo socio-emotivo del bambino in età prescolare.
