Este libro busca dar cuenta de las racionalidades que enmarcan las prácticas e interacciones de los diferentes actores rurales en relación con la construcción de lo público en el suroccidente colombiano tras más de 25 años del estado multicultural. Esto con el fin de comprender los procesos de convivencia y conflicto, donde la convivencia implica el proceso de encuentro y negociación con el otro, y el conflicto la posibilidad de dirimir la diferencia sin que ello suponga el exterminio del otro o la eliminación total de conflicto. La existencia de prácticas de convivencia y articulación intercultural evidencia las potencialidades de una construcción de lo social que reivindica una diversidad sin esencialismos y una construcción de lo público común desde el respeto a la diferencia, una idea que cobra cada vez más vigencia, en medio de la arremetida de los proyectos nacionalistas homogeneizadores que hoy se ciernen sobre los estados, en diferentes lugares del mundo. 10
