Le isatine e i loro derivati funzionalizzati in C-3 occupano un posto di rilievo nella sintesi organica e nella chimica medicinale. Le isatine N-sostituite e le isatine con diversi sostituenti su un anello fenilico sono state impiegate in reazioni a due, tre o quattro componenti che portano alla formazione di strutture spiro-eterocicliche a cinque e sei membri con un gruppo 2-ossindolo. Lo sviluppo di metodologie diastereo ed enantioselettive contenenti da due a quattro stereocentri per la sintesi di strutture cicliche spiro-fuse è l’area di interesse attuale. In questa recensione, abbiamo presentato diverse sintesi recenti di spiroeterocicli a base di isatina in diversi mezzi indicatori di notevole interesse nell’area e si prevede una chimica molto più interessante. Nelle reazioni citate, in alcuni casi è necessario il calore per accelerarle, mentre in altri si tratta di reazioni assistite da microonde. In alcuni casi è stata menzionata anche la valutazione biologica. Ci auguriamo che questa rassegna susciti nei ricercatori o nei chimici organici un forte interesse per la sintesi organica a base di isatina di composti biologicamente attivi.
