Um artista que mergulha no universo das manifestações populares, dos seus personagens e objetos mais representativos, diante de uma conjuntura de ruptura institucional em 1964. Sante exprime uma estética grotesca de corte popular, posicionando as pinceladas em torno de experiências desprovidas de padrões socialmente estabelecidos, rebaixando para o plano material circunstâncias atribuídas ao plano celeste, de modo que experiências mágicas, fantásticas e extraordinárias irrompem no suporte como parte da realidade da cultura popular. É uma pesquisa que se debruça por três fases da pintura de Sante Scaldaferri, compreendendo o período de 1964 a 1988, observando em que medida as expressões da cultura popular são acompanhadas por reações simbólicas acerca da ditadura militar brasileira. 'Composições Grotescas: A Cultura Popular nas Pinturas de Sante Scaldaferri' é um livro que conduz a análise sociológica para a estética pictórica, contribuindo para os estudos atinentes a sociologia da arte e, mais especificamente, para a sociologia da pintura.
