Se publica por primera vez una edición crítica de la «Comedia de Calisto y Melibea» en 16 autos; para la fijación del texto se han utilizado todos los testimonios primitivos: el Manuscrito de Palacio, los tres impresos de la obra (Burgos ¿1499-1502?, Toledo 1500 y Sevilla 1501) y las ediciones de la Tragicomedia de Zaragoza 1507 y Valencia 1514. Se propone un nuevo “stemma” de transmisión de la Celestina en sus primeros estadios y asimismo se pone en duda la autoría de Fernando de Rojas, no solo del auto Iº, perteneciente al «antiguo autor», sino también de las ampliaciones posteriores a 16 y 21 autos. Esta edición intenta colmar la demanda de muchos estudiosos que piensan que la Comedia está más conseguida literariamente que la Tragicomedia por su pureza textual, coherencia interna y dramaticidad.
