Seven year old, MellyAnne Gibson takes us where children must follow, when under the authority of adults. She gives us a child’s perspective of the adult world which can be chaotic and sometimes dangerous. She is thrust into circumstances not of her own choosing, yet, through a loving mother and a caring neighbor, is shown how to see good, in the middle of turmoil. MellyAnne encounters the harshness of unloving grandparents and an indifferent father, but is reassured by the unexpected compassion of a kind police officer and a church full of loving people. She reminds us, not everything adults do is completely understood by children. She also reminds us; adults can learn much if they listen to a child’s heart. MellyAnne and her brother Andy experience a secret and scary night-time adventure with their mother Erin. In the process, they learn the art of sharing out of poverty, acceptance from being accepted, and love from being loved. MellyAnne and Andy learn ingenuity and perseverance from observing their mother who is brave, intuitive, and compassionate. In the end MellyAnne encounters a loving God who has always been with her.
