This is the second book in the series of stories that focus on a colony of animals, displaced by the red mist, a fire that ravaged the forest. The first book followed Jobe as he embarked on a journey as a young bear playing with his friends.  For a bear so young and a colony of animals seemingly dependant on his guidance it was alway going to be a struggle. His father, Scar, a bear that was chased into the mountains where he is forced to reside, this due to the Human wanton lust for his head. The story begins as his father Scar, returns to help Jobe following the death of his long term partner Heti, taken too soon by the red mist. His stay would be brief but pointent.Jobe and his friends travel many miles, towards an uncertain future in an unfamiliar place. He would, as he leads the colony, face many challenges as his journey progresses taking the colony to the edge of their capabilities. Facing the uncertainty of change, the journey means Jobe is forced to grow up fast whilst still have the ability to lead these desperate animals to a new secure land which was to become their new home. The Longshoot lay in the mountains of another shire where unfamiliar animals, tales of loss and danger, intrigue and sadness await them.  New characters join the colony nestled in the animal village of Sharply Hollow, where a young female bear joins the colony, for a while. Her family, like Jobe’s, have a common dislike to humans who destroy their lands, her father patrols the very edge of the shire.Follow this intriguing story as Jobe and his friends settle into their new home, with exciting places to discover, tales to embrace their imagination in and around their new home.  What exciting memories will the new colony make as you discover the adventures of Columbus Park, A New Beginning.
