Neurological disorders are diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, i.e. the brain, spinal cord, cranial and peripheral nerves, nerve roots, autonomic nervous system, neuromuscular plate and muscles. They can appear from a person’s birth (congenital) or during the life course (acquired) and are among the most common causes of neurological disability. (1)Often the person affected by an acquired brain injury presents instability in emotions, depression or loss of control over the expression of crying or laughter and are referred to as functional neurological disorders (FND). These disorders have had a long and difficult history of mind-body dualism, but have now come to have a definite pathophysiological concept and neurobiological basis that challenges the old assumptions that their only causes are psychological abnormalities (in other words, psychogenic illnesses). Also known as paroxysmal nonepileptic episodes are events that can simulate epileptic seizures.
