Esiste un’associazione tra la depressione maggiore e la schizofrenia e le citochine proinfiammatorie. Nel presente studio sono stati misurati i livelli di IL-6, IL-18, TNF-alfa e sIL-2r in entrambi i disturbi psichiatrici. I risultati potrebbero indicare che questi disturbi sono di natura infiammatoria. Inoltre, i risultati potrebbero fornire un’indicazione del fatto che i farmaci antinfiammatori possano essere utilizzati come coadiuvanti nel trattamento di questi disturbi.
